Taamaki ki Raro - Hamish Gordhan

“In my seventeen years at Counties Manukau, I have faced more than my share of challenges, putting complex things together.

Just recently a team of us had to assemble a tricky climbing frame for children with burns, and we were quite confused till we did what Kiwi males often don’t do – read the instructions!

I got my start here working in Intensive Care. That was a steep learning curve for a young engineer, but I fell in love with machines and technology – particularly the stuff that is life saving and life changing for patients.

Now, as head of Operations and Equipment, I work with an awesome bunch of people – all sorts of ethnicities, and highly skilled, not to mention entertaining!

We really enjoy the satisfaction of seeing our kaimahi here Counties being amazed at some feat of engineering we have pulled off.

As for the future, I think I have at least 15 good years of service left in me, and  when I retire, maybe I will carry on using my skills to help people.

For the meantime, Middlemore is an awesome place to work.”
