Image: Lieutenant William Manchester joined the New Zealand Army and was sent to Egypt in 1940. In 1950, Middlemore Hospital was honoured to have renowned plastic surgeon Sir William Manchester arrive to establish our Plastic Surgery Unit.

A lot has changed in the nearly 50 years that orderly Ivy Tauhinu has been employed at Middlemore Hospital. The buildings, the uniforms, and even the way to appropriately address staff have all shifted dramatically since a young Ivy started with the hospital on 10 October 1969.
