Overview Pain Fellowship
This is a full-time position of 12 months duration open to trainees of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) of ANZCA.
Applicants need not be anaesthetists or anaesthetists-in-training, this position is open to all applicants who meet the requirements for entry into the FPM training program.
It is a highly structured fellowship that will meet the training requirements of either the Core Training Stage or the Practice Development Stage of training.
Regular activities will include contribution to inpatient pain ward rounds and our outpatient chronic pain clinics. There is the potential for tailoring of the fellow’s timetable to accommodate areas of interested or desired experience.
At Counties-Manukau Health we are well placed to offer a broad exposure to pain medicine:
- We are a busy acute tertiary hospital with a busy Acute Pain Service.
- We have an innovative, inpatient, twice-weekly, multidisciplinary Complex Pain Round.
- We have recently launched a fortnightly Transitional Pain Clinic.
- We have a Chronic Pain Service comprising a small but highly functional and experienced team, bringing an interdisciplinary biopsychosocial model of pain management to a very culturally and socioeconomically diverse community. In addition to clinic-based assessments, the CPS offers several group-based programs.
- We can offer the opportunity to collaborate with and gain experience from other services connected with pain management, including the inpatient and community Palliative Care teams, the Community Alcohol and Drug Service, the Department of Psychological Medicine, the Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit, and the Centre for Youth Health.
- We have qualified pain specialists able to act as training supervisors within the acute and chronic pain services and the inpatient palliative care team.
- We have strong relationships with the other pain services within the Auckland region
Experience in pain procedures or interventions is not included in this fellowship. Observation of procedures could be organized for interested fellows.
