Community Birthing Units
Community birthing units are here to support you, baby, and your whaanau.
Choosing to have your baby at a community birthing unit means:
- you can have your baby close to home and whaanau
- free parking is available
- staff are highly trained and are available 24/7 during your stay.
Counties Manukau has three community birthing units - Botany Downs, Papakura and Pukekohe.
The units are managed by experienced midwives who specialise in promoting normal labour and birth. Women can choose where to birth their baby either at home or at a facility in the Counties Manukau area. It's advisable for the woman to discuss her options about where to have her baby with her midwife. This ensures the woman is aware of the options available to her.
