Research

Our Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Counties Manukau are active participants in international, investigator lead, multicenter research studies.  We have a dynamic research team comprised of consultants, fellows and research nurses who work together and offer support and advice.  Our research team meet regularly for updates and planning, with attendance at the annual ANZCA Clinical Trials Network conference in Australia encouraged.

Recently completed projects include the METS, Balanced and PADDI trials. We are currently undertaking the POISE 3 trial and future projects include VAPORC, Rocket and NATO studies.

There is ample opportunity to be involved with our research studies and audit at a departmental level, and we actively embrace summer studentships for medical students.  For more information contact Sue Olliff via our contact page.

At Counties, there is an informative and helpful Research Office through which hospital approvals are processed and funding opportunities sought.  We are lucky to have a regionally established network of research minded colleagues both within our department and between DHB's.

Quality Control and Audit

Within the department, a core group of  QA interested specialists meet regularly to implement, monitor and ensure quality control processes are in action, and standards are being met.  Numerous QA and audits are live at any one time.

On 22nd September 2020 we lost our universally respected and loved statistical maestro Dr. Alan McLintic. Alan was recognised internationally for his contribution to teaching, writing, painting, debunking medical fallacies and being an extraordinary individual.
