Latest News 17 January 2020|Counties Manukau Health has full contingency plans in place for industrial action by Sonographers who are members of the APEX union.

Sonographers will strike for 12 weeks from Saturday, 18 January, 2020.

The majority of our health services will not be affected by strike action.

While the industrial action is not a full withdrawal of labour, some of our services will be affected, particularly for patients attending clinics who need a general or cardiac ultrasound scan.

Our priority during this period of strike action is the provision of urgent and acute care to those who need it.

We expect some appointments will need to be postponed or delayed in our general and cardiac ultrasound services and we will manage this through contingency planning.

Our Emergency Department and Inpatient Services will have the capacity to undertake all acute care.

While a large number of the hospital’s health services are unaffected, the strike action has meant that some patient appointments will be rescheduled. We sincerely regret that this is necessary and apologise to those affected. Unless patients are contacted by one of the team at Counties Manukau Health, they should attend their appointment as scheduled. Patients whose appointments have been rescheduled will be contacted directly and we aim to reschedule all appointments to the next available date.

Anyone who remains uncertain should call our toll free number, 0800 277 1661.

During this strike period, if people experience a condition that is not urgent or severe please contact Healthline on 0800 611 116 or their GP in the first instance.

In an emergency always call 111.

Planned Strike Action

The partial withdrawal of services being undertaken by Sonographers will take place from:

  • 7am Saturday 18 January 2020 - 7am Saturday 11 April 2020.
