Last week I was fortunate to be invited to Pukekohe Hospital for a coffee and a chat. While I was there, I made a surprise presentation to a lovely lady called Maria Burch. Maria works at Franklin Memorial Hospital and has been a Health and Safety representative for the past five years.   Along with 19 safety reps from across the organisation, Maria was recognised for her contribution to keeping our workplace safe for our patients, visitors and staff. Maria received her award for outstanding health and safety engagement and service.

Inclusion matters

Today (3 December) CM Health celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a United Nations sanctioned day that celebrates progress in breaking down barriers, opening doors, and realising an inclusive society for all. I’m joined by Ezekiel Robson, who is passionate about raising awareness, understanding and acceptance of people living with disabilities and their achievements. Ezekiel has been a community appointed representative on CM Health’s DiSAC (Disability Support Advisory Committee) for the past ten years, and recently joined our Patient & Whaanau Centred Care Consumer Council.

Auckland DHBs make offer to settle PSA negotiations

Plastic surgeon receives oncology award

Posted by Communications Team on 27 November 2015 | - A top US trained plastic surgeon working at Middlemore Hospital, Jon Mathy, is this year’s Newmarket Rotary Charitable Foundation’s Ross Craig Oncology Award recipient.  The aim of the award is to give clinicians who work with cancer patients the opportunity to collaborate for a short intense period with University researchers.  Read more..

Earlier this month, at a Memorial Service, we paid tribute to Professor Sir John Scott, one of the truly great physicians of New Zealand medicine.   While he touched the lives of many Professor Scott excelled as a physician, a teacher, a researcher and a medical leader.

Latest health target results for Counties Manukau

Despite unprecedented demand in our Emergency Department, people of Counties Manukau were still within the Ministry of Health's recommended waiting times. The number of patients presenting to the EC department during this period averaged 344 patients per day and fluctuated between 302 and 400 patients per day.

Meet George Cook - Whaanau Support Worker

In January 2015, I was appointed to a new role of Whaanau Support Worker for the Paediatric Outpatient Service at the Manukau SuperClinic.  At the time, the service was facing a high number of generally unwell children, who failed to turn up for their clinic appointments.  My role was to help reduce this number by supporting these families to attend these clinics.

Waste not, want not

As one of the largest employers in South Auckland, we have a corporate responsibility to care for our environment at the same time as we care for our community. What is really heartening is that by working together in small but meaningful ways, we are making great progress, particularly when it comes to reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill.

Google ‘what is psychology?’ and the first definition that comes up is ‘the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behaviour in a given context; and the mental characteristics or attitude of a person or group’.  Google then defines a psychologist as an expert in this.
