Snapped Out is an interactive stop smoking campaign that asks people to stop, think and create artwork about the impact of smoking in their community. Focussed on youth in South Auckland, the campaign is based on a Snapchat and Facebook platform that encourages followers to stop smoking by creating digital artwork using Snapchat tools.

Over six weeks the campaign has gathered over 3000 highly engaged followers across both Snapchat and Facebook and received 500 pieces of user generated Snapped Out artwork.

CM Health Portfolio manager for Smokefree, Summer Hawke is delighted with the results of the campaign. “Trying to engage with our Rangatahi (youth) who smoke is challenging when using a conventional approach but by using a social media channel in a fun and appealing way we have provided a space for our Rangatahi to generate their own smokefree messages, encourage their friends and whaanau to stop smoking and make our community rethink that smoking is not our social norm.“

Off the back of a successful six week social media campaign, an exhibition is currently underway at Mangere Arts Centre until the 23rd December.
