A community of learning

Posted by Geraint Martin on 27 May 2015 |

I recently discovered that Ko Awatea LEARN, the eLearning platform developed by Ko Awatea for Counties Manukau Health (CM Health) recently achieved another milestone – 1200 sessions in the system in one day. With partnerships spanning eight DHBs, this phenomenal number is only matched by the training hours associated with it - at an average of 20 minutes per session.  That’s equal to 400 hours of training a day!  What we have is a healthcare eLearning community that is developing, growing and thriving.

Despite this, most leadership training continues to be aimed at those already in management positions. This is where the Ko Awatea Leadership Academy differs. Designed for emerging multi-disciplinary leaders (clinical, managerial and support staff), the programme is aimed at building leadership capability throughout the organisation and creating a pipeline of highly capable, innovative and engaging leaders who have the skills and passion to lead health system transformation into the future.

Happy Birthday Ko Awatea

Posted by Geraint Martin on 2 July 2012 |

I’m blogging this week from my usual spot in the Ko Awatea atrium, which is appropriate given that I want to celebrate Ko Awatea’s recent first birthday. Professor Jonathon Gray is with me to help reflect on some of the highlights we’ve had since Ko Awatea’s Opening and Colloquium in June last year.
